Somethings i do when i have art blocks and cant stand drawing.
To beat an art block is to make templates (character poses and such) and sketches and forcing yourself to detail them as much as you can during your moments of lag. That way you can come back later when your are more inspired with a base idea.
Sometimes when i draw anxiety kicks in heavy and i cant seem to get my idea down on paper/tablet. So recently to help myself through this tough time i loosely gesture draw and dont worry about detail. Taking my time and just making marks. The next day i return to the drawing without any anxiety and happy to see a good base of the sketch i struggled with the day before. This help me continue to the next stages of making clean line art, and then later coloring.
The trick is also to not worry about being perfect.
More important things to remember is to:
- Take your time.
- Take breaks
- And to keep pushing forward. Never give up.
- Don't be afraid to scrap an idea for a better one that will come later.
- Give yourself time to mull over ideas and look for inspiration in other things like novels, tv shows, movies, or comic books.
